My friends at Comic Relief were dipping their toe into the world of podcast advertising for the first time. Yes, oh yes, we all love those interruptions. To kick off the first phase of a partnership with Acast (self-proclaimed, “fastest-growing podcast marketplace in the world”) they challenged me to make a charming, simple, tight-turnaround, ad that would lead with one of their key talents and celebrate some of their legacy achievements. All the while, reassuring their audience that the funds they’ve raised are in fact making a real difference – An increasingly important factor for big charities in an age where audiences won’t settle for anything less than full transparency. Oh, and I got to direct Claudia Winkleman, so, as far as my mum is concerned, I have arrived.
