In development: Parameters of the perception of calm

Client/Project
A multifaceted conceptual art project exploring turbulence, external, internal, and transpersonal, through photography, analogue image disturbance, and immersive spatial installations.

The Challenge
Photographer Sebastian Nevols is evolving his practice into conceptual art, expanding beyond photography into a dialogue with history, philosophy, and material experimentation. This project required a creative producer to interrogate the conceptual foundations, structure the research, facilitate collaborations with academics and practitioners across disciplines, whilst building a timeline that stewards the project into production.

The Outcome
The project is evolving into an ambitious body of work that situates turbulence as both material and metaphor. By embedding scientific, historical, and artistic perspectives into the practice, Sebastian Nevols’ work now bridges photography and conceptual installation, opening dialogue with institutions and preparing for gallery exhibition.

    • Interrogating and developing Artistic Practice I support Sebastian’s shift from photography into a more conceptual mode, drawing connections between medium, process, and broader cultural narratives.

    • Contextual research Including the historical, scientific, and philosophical contexts of turbulence, art-historical references, as well as studying and making and crafting techniques.

    • Collaboration with academic partners Consulted and liaised with scholars in relevant fields, building partnerships that informed and strengthened the conceptual framework.

    • Project Structuring Defining routes of enquiry (e.g. environmental, psychological, technological perspectives on turbulence) and created a development and production timeline.

    • Creative Consultancy: Shaping conceptual and aesthetic through lines, ensuring alignment between artistic vision, research insights, and practical outputs.

    • Production Support Coordinating test shoots, modelling experiments, and pathways for exhibition in galleries or institutional contexts.

Featured project: 3 Aces

Client/Project
A short documentary triptych exploring self-worth and identity through the lens of East Asian creatives in the fashion industry.

The Challenge
Journalist Eric Jiang approached me when he was creating his first documentary project. He needed support developing a strong structure that could unify three stories while allowing each to stand alone. The project required guidance from idea to production, ensuring clarity of vision and narrative integrity.

The Outcome
The result is an intimate, layered short film, spotlighting photographers Chieska Fortune Smith, and Xiao Er and model and entrepreneur Du Wei. It interrogates how self-worth is shaped across cultures, personal histories, and artistic expression. Next steps? The project is now making its rounds and creating buzz through the awards circuit.

    • Interrogated the Idea Helped refine the central questions on self-worth, identity, and cultural belonging.

    • Created a Timeline Built a production roadmap from concept to delivery.

    • Developed Story Structure Designed a flexible framework to shape each film’s narrative arc while allowing for improvisation and the spontaneity of documentary discovery.

    • Informed Interviews Created guiding questions and structures to elicit authentic, thematic insights from each subject.

    • Mentorship Provided one-to-one guidance to the filmmaker throughout his first project, supporting creative decision-making and confidence.

    • Script Consultation I wrote the scripts, ensuring a balance between essayistic form and character-driven storytelling.

    • Partnerships Matched Eric with an experienced filmmaker, director, and production team to realise his vision.

Featured project: The Sick Rose

Client/Project
A creative collaboration between photographer Sebastian Nevols and make-up artist Victoria Poland. The brief was to create a design language that merged the precision of anatomical illustration with the polish of contemporary editorial aesthetics.

The Challenge
The project needed a unifying narrative and design system that could balance historical references with modern visual clarity, ensuring that the final piece felt both conceptually rich and editorially sleek.

The Outcome
The result is a cohesive, visually striking document that bridges history and modernity — historically grounded yet contemporary in execution, and a true reflection of the collaboration’s conceptual and aesthetic aims.

    • Conceptual Development Translated the brief into a design approach inspired by Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, using hand-drawn motifs to root the project in an historical anatomical illustration style.

    • Document Design Built a refined typographic system and grid to carry the narrative with clarity and precision.

    • Narrative Structure & Writing Wrote and structured the full text, ensuring consistency of tone and intellectual cohesion.

    • Art Direction Selected bespoke fonts and design treatments to deepen the editorial voice and harmonise with the imagery.
